The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has granted approval for the construction of 28 roads and bridges nationwide, totaling over 1.2 trillion Naira in value.
Shortly after the FEC meeting held on Monday, the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, revealed this information.
He stated that the projects had received approval from FEC after undergoing scrutiny by the Bureau of Public Procurement and obtaining Certificates of No Objection.
Umahi also mentioned that FEC sanctioned the construction of the Buruku bridge across the Katsina Ala River in Benue State, valued at over 83.7 billion Naira. Additionally, approval was granted for the construction of a 91.432-kilometer road in Saki, Oyo State, valued at 144 billion Naira.
However, the FEC endorsed the downscaling of the road construction project from Biu-Kanga-Gaya to the border of Niger Republic, with an estimated cost of about 158 billion Naira.
Furthermore, the FEC has given the green light for the establishment of an Infrastructure Fund named the Renewed Hope Infrastructural Fund. This decision was made in response to estimates suggesting that Nigeria would need over 878 billion dollars to address the infrastructure gap in the country.
