Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Federal High Court has approved weekend and public holiday operations in its registries across the country to handle only pre-election cases.

The directive was disclosed on Thursday in a statement signed by the court’s Chief Registrar, Yahaya Shafa, who explained that the arrangement became necessary because of the strict timelines attached to election-related matters.

According to the notice, legal practitioners can file pre-election suits between 10am and 2pm on weekends and public holidays at all divisions of the court.

The move comes as political parties step up preparations for the 2027 polls, with several already holding primaries for various elective positions.
