A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has adjourned the murder case involving 12 suspects accused of killing female Inspector Christiana Erekere at the Taabaa Police Checkpoint in Rivers State to December 4, 2024, for the continuation of hearing.

The trial judge, Justice Augusta Chukwu, made the adjournment after Sunny Nwokoro, counsel for the 1st and 3rd defendants, cross-examined a witness named Harrison Emmanuel, a Police Officer from the Bori Division.

During the cross-examination, Mr. Emmanuel testified that the suspects assaulted the late Christiana with sticks and blocks, and she died while being transported to the hospital.

Counsel for the 1st and 3rd defendants, Sunny Nwokoro who spoke to our correspondent after the court proceeding said, “We have cross-examined him and he has answered the questions. That’s all I can say; I can’t say more than that.”

On her part, Lead Counsel for the police, Mercy Nweke, said she could not make any statement until the commissioner of Police is briefed on the matter.

As you may know, the suspects were reportedly traveling from Delta State to Akwa Ibom State for a wedding on April 25, 2024, when they allegedly hacked female Police Inspector Christiana Erekere to death at her duty post at the Taabaa Police Checkpoint in Khana Local Government Area, Rivers State.

The incident occurred after the suspects, who were traveling in two vehicles, were stopped for a routine check in front of the police station.

The deceased, Christiana Erekere, was part of a team of police officers conducting the search at the time.
