The Federal Government has introduced a new service by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to streamline and safeguard identity verification using the National Identification Number (NIN).
In a statement released on Tuesday in Lagos, NIMC’s Head of Corporate Communications, Kayode Adegoke, announced that the Presidency has directed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to adopt the new NIN Authentication service for identity verification processes.
Adegoke noted that this initiative aligns with NIMC’s mandate to establish a dependable digital identity system for Nigerians and legal residents.
The NIN Authentication service, accessible via web platforms, mobile applications, or APIs, aims to enhance data security, protect user privacy, and simplify access to government services.
“This supports President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to improve how identities are managed in the country,” he said.
The NINAuth application is the official tool for connecting with NIMC’s database.
It adds a strong layer of protection and gives people more control over their personal information.
It also requires users to grant permission before their data is used for services such as Know Your Customer or other verification checks.
Adegoke stated that the platform fosters trust and gives users control over how their information is shared.
With NINAuth, individuals can securely verify their identity and access services such as SIM registration, SIM replacement, passport applications, tax filings, and financial transactions.
It will also be utilized for government support programs, driver’s license renewals, and other official processes.
He further highlighted the service’s benefits: enhanced security, protection against unauthorized access to personal data, and empowering users to manage their data-sharing preferences.
NINAuth also provides easy and secure access to numerous services through a single sign-on feature.
Adegoke emphasized that the launch of NINAuth reflects NIMC’s ongoing commitment to improving identity verification in Nigeria.
The platform is designed to be secure, adaptable, and compatible with other systems through API integration.
It enables real-time verification of NIN records, improving service delivery and ensuring compliance with national identity regulations.
He confirmed that NINAuth is now the official platform for all identity checks that rely on the NIN.
