FG asks ministerial nominees to complete documentation ahead of screening

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Abdullahi Gumel on Friday asked the ministerial nominees to complete their documentation.

In a statement, Senator Gumel, said the the documentation for all ministerial nominees has commenced.

The nominees were asked to visit the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate) at the National Assembly complex, between Friday 28 and Sunday 30 July for necessary documentation ahead of screening, which commences on Monday, July 31, 2023.

“Documentation for ministerial nominees has commenced and all nominees are expected to complete all necessary processes before the screening,” the statement read.

“The office will be open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for this purpose, this is to enable all nominees to complete the process before the screening.”

Newsclick Nigeria had reported how President Bola Tinubu through his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, submitted the ministerial list to the National Assembly.

In the 28-member list, no fewer than four former governors were selected by the President, alongside other nominees to make up the cabinet.

Tinubu’s first set of nominations was overshadowed by politicians including four ex-governors, serving and former members of the Senate and House of Representatives.

Twenty-five per cent of the nominees are women while 75% are men. The women are Betta Edu, Doris Aniche Uzoka, Hannatu Musawa, Nkiru Onyeojiocha, Stella Okotete, Nkiru Onyeojiocha, Uju Kennedy Ohaneye, and Iman Suleiman Ibrahim.

The transmission of the list to the National Assembly comes a day before the expiration of the 60-day constitutional deadline of July 28, 2023.

Away from the ministerial nominations, the APC spokesman also weighed in on the crisis rocking the party following the resignation of Senator Abdullahi Adamu and Senator Iyiola Omisore as National Chairman and National Secretary respectively.
