The Federal Government has begun work on the ₦47 billion Jakara–Wuju–Wuju road and sewage project within Kano metropolis.

The project, which will cut across Gwale, Kano Municipal, Dala and Fagge Local Government Areas, is designed to curb erosion and stimulate economic activities when completed.

Speaking on Tuesday, the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Ata, explained that the Federal Government assumed responsibility for the project following a request from the Kano State Government.

He added that while the state government had already executed about 850 metres of the project, the Federal Government would finance the remaining 6.7 kilometres.

According to Ata, the state government would bear the cost of compensating affected property owners.

He commended former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso for initiating the project in 2013 and thanked President Bola Tinubu for approving the funds.

“The initiative is a major intervention that underscores the federal government’s commitment to Kano State,” Ata said.
