FG initiates distribution of 42,000 metric tons of grains

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stated that the distribution of grains is a component of a holistic intervention program being implemented by the federal government. This initiative aims to alleviate the prevailing hardships and stimulate economic recovery, fostering sustainable development and prosperity for all citizens.

He made these remarks during the launch at Government House, Sokoto, of the release of 42,000 metric tons (MT) of various food commodities from the National Strategic Food Reserve to vulnerable Nigerians across the country.

The minister emphasized that President Tinubu has expressed concerns about the escalating food prices and is committed to ensuring the availability and affordability of essential food items for Nigerians. This is why he sanctioned the distribution of 42,000 metric tons of assorted grains, such as sorghum, millet, and maize, along with 60,000 metric tons of rice through millers.

Furthermore, the minister acknowledged that the Federal Government anticipates some transitional challenges as a result of the President’s policy reforms.

He said:  “The government calls for continued patience and understanding from Nigerians as we push through these difficult times into a season of abundant benefits and truly renewed Hope. As the President never fails to emphasize, these headwinds we face are only temporary, and we will surely overcome them,” he said.
