The Police authorities in Abuja have arrested a woman, Chioma Okoli for criticizing a tomato paste alleging it to be sugary.

Approximately two weeks ago, a woman using the Facebook name Chioma Egodi Jnr reported that she had visited the market in search of her preferred tomato paste. When unable to find it, she opted for an alternative.

Upon opening the paste, she asserted it had a sugary taste. She subsequently reached out to her social media acquaintances to verify if they had similar experiences with the product.

Days later, Babatunde Iruka, the Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), confirmed that the woman had been apprehended in connection with her statement.

“UPDATE: @fccpcnigeria operatives have confirmed the arrest & transfer of the case to Abuja by the Police Force,” the FCCPC boss wrote on his X account Monday.

“She was no longer at the station on arrival. Working to determine the exact current location & engaging Force HQ in Abuja.”

Although the company dismissed the woman’s claim as untrue, the FCCPC, said “summons are being issued” to the firm.
