FG issues alert to Nigerians travelling to UK

The Federal Government has issued a warning to Nigerian citizens planning to travel to the United Kingdom, advising them to be cautious due to the increased risk of violence following the recent murder of three young girls at a concert.

In a statement released on Monday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja, and signed by Spokesperson Amb. Eche Abu-Obe, it was noted that the violence has reached “dangerous proportions,” with reports of attacks on law enforcement and damage to infrastructure.

Travelers are advised to exercise heightened vigilance and take the following precautions: avoid political processions, protests, rallies, and marches; steer clear of crowded areas and large gatherings; and remain alert and self-aware at all times.

Recent demonstrations by far-right and other extra-parliamentary groups in the UK have been both large and, at times, unruly.

The tragic deaths of the three girls have exacerbated tensions, fueling an anti-immigration narrative with a focus on Muslim immigrants and people of color.

Last Tuesday, a large group of anti-Muslim protesters clashed with police in a northern English town where the stabbing occurred.

The attack took place during a Taylor Swift-themed event in Southport, a quiet seaside town north of Liverpool, resulting in the deaths of three girls and critical injuries to five other children.

Authorities have stated that the incident is not linked to terrorism and that the suspect was born in the UK.
