The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has directed an immediate halt to the ongoing reconstruction of the Eleme section of the East-West road in Rivers State. This action comes in response to the alleged unethical practices of the contractor responsible for the project.

Mr. Umahi issued the directive while conducting an inspection of the East-West road in Port-Harcourt on Saturday.

Accompanied by Barry Mpigi, the Senator representing Rivers South-East, the minister emphasized that the project must be halted until certain irregularities he identified are addressed.

He disclosed that Reynolds Construction Company (RCC), the contractors, had received a payment of N33 billion. Mr. Umahi, heading the Federal Ministry of Works, asserted that any attempt to compromise the country’s interests would not be tolerated under his watch.
