The popular Eko bridge in Lagos state has been reopened for vehicular movement, months after it was closed for repairs.

The bridge was reopened on Saturday.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos and other state government officials, visited the bridge for the reopening.

The 4.1-kilometre bridge links Lagos island with the mainland and directly connects Apongbon on the island side.

On March 23, 2022, many shops were destroyed in a fire outbreak at the Apongbon market area.

Vehicles parked under the bridge were also reportedly razed by the inferno which enveloped a large section of the flyover.

Owing to the incident, the Lagos government ordered the closure of the bridge.

In June, the federal government announced  July 15 as the new deadline for the completion of repairs and the reopening of Eko bridge to traffic.
