The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to completing the Abuja–Keffi highway on schedule while maintaining strict standards of quality in execution.
This was made known by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, during an inspection tour of ongoing federal road projects in the Federal Capital Territory and parts of Nasarawa State, where he assessed progress on the Mararaba–Keffi corridor.
Umahi expressed satisfaction with the pace of work so far and commended contractors handling different sections of the project for what he described as good workmanship and adherence to specifications.
He restated the government’s resolve to put an end to abandoned or poorly executed infrastructure projects, stressing that quality delivery remains a non-negotiable priority.
“The Federal Government is determined to ensure that projects are delivered according to specification and within the approved timelines. Nigerians deserve durable infrastructure that will stand the test of time, and we will continue to insist on quality in every project under our supervision.”
He also warned contractors against cutting corners, adding that any challenge encountered on site should be promptly reported to the ministry for proper handling.
“If you encounter any difficulty, inform us immediately. The Federal Government remains committed to meeting its obligations, including timely payments. However, quality must never be compromised,” he stated.
The minister further directed that outstanding sections of the highway should be prioritised for completion before contractors proceed with additional layers of work, noting that partial completion often contributes to delays.
Umahi also inspected the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano road project, where he disclosed that completion is targeted for November 2026.
The inspection was attended by lawmakers and other stakeholders, who praised the government’s infrastructure efforts, describing the projects as vital to improving transportation, boosting commerce, and strengthening national connectivity.
The visit formed part of ongoing federal efforts to accelerate key road projects under the Renewed Hope infrastructure agenda aimed at improving economic development and easing movement across the country.
