The Federal Government has unveiled an extra large painting of President Bola Tinubu on a canvas in Abuja to mark the 25th anniversary of democracy.

Democracy Day was previously celebrated annually on May 29. But in 2018, former President Muhammadu Buhari declared June 12 as the new date.

The decision is aimed to honour MKO Abiola, the presumed winner of the June 12, 1993, presidential election.

At this year’s ceremony, the portrait — alleged to be the world’s largest painting on a canvas — was unveiled at the Eagles Square.

The artwork shows Tinubu in a wine-coloured agbada and a blue cap inscribed with his infinity signature.

Speaking with Arise TV at Eagles Square, Opeyemi Olaore, the coordinator of the painting, revealed that the portrait was created by 37 artists across the federation.

“We 37 of us came together led by Artifact Galleries. Myself Opeyemi Olaore, Toyin Jinadu, and Adele Oladipupo assembled 37 artists to build the world-largest painting portrait on canvas,” he said.

“Let us keep it suspense until it is unveiled. but the concept behind it is this, all the time we talk about the government, we know there is poverty in the land…”
