The Federal Government has criticised contractors handling road projects for failing to meet deadlines, causing hardship for Nigerians and stalling development.
During an inspection in Rivers State, Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, expressed displeasure over the slow progress of the Ahoada Section of the East-West Road, handled by Setraco and Rock Result. He accused the contractors of unprofessional conduct despite receiving payments.
Umahi vowed to sanction those responsible, saying, “I will use the engineers on this job to set an example. Queries will be issued, and non-performing staff will be replaced with consultants if necessary.”
While commending the quality of the work done, he criticised delays, blocking payments and issuing a seven-day notice to Rock Result. Umahi also set a deadline for the Bodo/Bonny Road project, stressing it must be completed by September 2025.
The Minister highlighted President Tinubu’s commitment to improving infrastructure in the Niger Delta and across Nigeria.
