A fire outbreak on Friday night destroyed goods worth millions of Naira at Olusola Saraki Market in the Ita-Amo area of Ilorin West Local Government, Kwara State.

According to the Kwara State Fire Service, the blaze affected seven out of the 269 shops in the market. Items destroyed included clothing materials, provisions, mineral drinks, and meat.

The Fire Service attributed the incident to a power surge caused by fluctuating supply from the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), as reported by market security personnel.

The affected shops included meat vendors, provision stores, and clothing outlets.

In a statement, the Fire Service expressed sympathy for the market leadership, the shop owners, and the community, offering hope that the traders’ losses would be restored in due course. It also urged the public to adopt fire safety measures to prevent similar incidents.
