Fire engulfs Delta building, destroys property worth millions

In the early hours of Sunday, a residential building on Atufe Road near Major Bowen Junction in Sapele, the capital of the Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State, was demolished, destroying millions of naira’s worth of residential property.

The cause of the fire had not been determined at the time this report was filed.

According to witnesses, the building was 80 percent destroyed prior to the arrival of firefighters from the Delta State Fire Service.

It was learned that the distressed residents were unable to contact State Fire Service officials until after a great deal of destruction had occurred.

However, operatives of Seplat Fire Service, an oil firm in Sapele, were said to have later responded to distress calls from well-meaning people in the community.

It was gathered that the Seplat Fire Service officials eventually succeeded in putting out the raging fire.

The Police Public Relations Officer from Delta State Command, Bright Edafe, could not be reached for comments on the incident, as of the time of filing this report.
