The Federal Fire Service has assured Nigerians that there is no cause for alarm after a fire broke out at the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation building in Abuja on Monday morning.

The fire reportedly started in Section C of the building, which is part of the Federal Secretariat Complex.

In a short notice released on Monday, the National Public Relations Officer, P. O. Abraham, said that firefighters responded immediately and managed to bring the fire under control.

“The Federal Fire Service has responded to a fire incident at the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation building in Abuja. The situation has been brought under control by firefighters.

“The Service assures Nigerians that there is no cause for alarm,” the statement read.

Abraham, who is also the Head of Corporate Services at the agency, signed the statement.

Videos shared on social media showed thick, dark smoke coming from an upper floor of the multi-storey building. The footage, reportedly taken around 8:00 a.m., indicated that the fire was mostly concentrated in one section.

Staff members evacuated the building while emergency responders rushed to control the situation.

Officials from the media department of the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation confirmed that the fire was limited to Section C and that emergency teams were already on site.

The cause of the fire had not been determined at the time of reporting. Authorities said investigations would begin once the situation was fully under control.
