A fire broke out at the popular AP Plaza in Abuja’s Wuse 2 area on Saturday, destroying cable installations and causing significant property damage, sparking safety concerns among local residents and business owners.
In a statement on Sunday, the FCT Fire Service confirmed that the fire was extinguished with assistance from the Federal Fire Service.
“A fire outbreak occurred on the sixth floor of a six-story commercial building at AP Plaza. The affected area included the MTN control room shelter, resulting in significant damage to cable installations,” the statement read.
“The emergency response was led by DSF Ahmed Ibrahim Katsina, DFO of Asokoro Fire Station. The FCT Fire Service, along with support from the Federal Fire Service, successfully extinguished the fire by 11:41 hrs.”
Acting Director of the FCT Fire Service, Adebayo Amiola Zacchaeus, praised the swift and coordinated response of the firefighters in tackling the blaze.
He emphasized the need for proactive fire safety measures with the dry season approaching, warning that the upcoming harmattan period could heighten the risk of fire outbreaks.
