One of the buses conveying Nigerians stranded in Sudan reportedly caught fire in the early hours of Monday.
The bus was transporting the students to safe location for onward airlifting to Nigeria.
According to a report, 50 Nigerian students from Sudan with tag number (Katsina 1) heading to Port Sudan were on the bus.
The chairman of the Nigerian Elders’ Forum in Sudan, Dr Hashim Idris Na’Allah, was one of the passengers in the said bus.
The bus got damaged due to excessive heat from one of the vehicle’s tyres which happened around 2:30 am Sudan time on Monday.
“The students said the RSF really did their possible best to help the passengers and offered them cups of tea in the morning before they left,” Sani Aliyu, who is in Sudan disclosed.
Forty out of the fifty passengers were later moved to the other buses on evacuation, while the remaining passengers spent the night where the incident happened alongside the driver at the RSF checkpoint.
