A fire has broken out at the AYM Shafa filling station in the Area 3 area of the Federal Capital Territory.
The incident started at about 10 p.m. on Thursday and was still burning when this report was filed.
While the cause of the fire had yet to be determined, firefighters from the Federal Fire Service were at the location working to extinguish the flames.
In a statement, the National Public Relations Officer of the Federal Fire Service, Paul Abraham, confirmed that emergency personnel had been mobilised to the scene to contain the fire and stop it from spreading to nearby structures and facilities.
He also expressed sympathy for those impacted by the incident and reassured residents that efforts were ongoing to bring the situation under control.
He said, “The Federal Fire Service empathises with everyone affected by the ongoing fire incident at AYM Shafa Petrol Station, Area 3, Abuja. We understand the concern this situation may have caused to residents, motorists, business owners, and members of the public, and we assure everyone that their safety remains our highest priority.
“Our firefighters are currently on the ground, working tirelessly and professionally to confine the fire, prevent its spread, and bring the situation under control as quickly and safely as possible”.
Abraham appealed to the public to remain calm and keep away from the area so emergency workers could carry out their duties without disruption.
“Members of the public are strongly advised to remain calm and avoid panic. We also urge residents and onlookers to stay away from the scene and allow emergency responders sufficient space to carry out their operations without obstruction.
“Motorists are advised to use alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion around the affected area and to cooperate with traffic management and other emergency agencies on the ground.
“The Federal Fire Service is doing everything within its operational capacity to manage the incident effectively. Further verified information will be communicated as more details become available,” he said.
