A fire outbreak at the Federal Institute of Industrial Research (FIIRO) office in Oshodi, Lagos, has been successfully contained, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

In a statement issued on Thursday, LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed that damping down, as well as search and rescue operations, had been completed.

He explained that the agency received distress calls at 10:20 PM and promptly activated the State’s Emergency Response Plans, dispatching its Eagle Response Team from the Cappa Base in Oshodi.

Upon arrival at 10:22 PM, the team discovered a fire engulfing the generator house.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was caused by overheating of the generator while in operation.

Dr. Oke-Osanyintolu noted that no lives were lost, and no injuries were reported during the incident.

However, approximately 80% of the generator house was destroyed by the fire. The quick intervention of the Response Teams prevented the blaze from spreading to nearby buildings within the facility.
