Fire razes buildings in Port Harcourt

Fire has razed some buildings in two compounds which accommodate at least 40 households in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State.

The fire, which began at 11 a.m. on Boms Street in Elekahia Community, is believed to have burned two complexes, one having block dwellings and the other containing wooden temporary constructions, in less than an hour.

The fire is alleged to have originated in one of the block house rooms inhabited by a lady, and it is highly suspected that the flame was caused by the petrol stove she was using before to the event or incense, which she frequently fires owing to her faith.

According to reports, the level of damage was severe because it was difficult for fire trucks to access the populated area following the blockades mounted by merry residents who had a community carnival in the area last night.

The value of the damage and perhaps the real cause of the fire has not been ascertained by the authorities at the time of this report.
