A midnight fire destroyed over 25 stores and N150 million in goods at Yan Katako Market Rijiyar Lemu in Kano State’s Fagge Local Government Area.

Alhaji Mamuda Abdullahi, the market’s chairman, told reporters that the blaze began at 1 a.m. on Monday.

He pointed out that the conflagration destroyed over 25 shops containing plywood, foam, spray machine, chairs, and other carpentry tools.

The chairman stated that the reason of the occurrence has yet to be determined.

He, however, commended the Kano State Fire Service personnel for their prompt response.

He called on the state government and philanthropists to support them, as many traders have lost their means of livelihood.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, confirmed the incident.

He, however, explained that about 25 shops were completely razed down by the inferno, while several other shops were also touched or partially affected by the fire.

“We received distress calls around 1am and our men were able to put out the fire around 2am,” Abdullahi said.
