Five people died and 12 others were injured in series of collisions on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.

Reports indicate that the accident occurred in the early morning hours of Sunday near the Four Square Camp in Ajebo, a village in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State confirmed the accident in a statement to newsmen.

According to Florence Okpe, the FRSC spokesperson in Ogun State, 21 people were involved in the multiple crashes.

“The FRSC Ogunmakin unit Command carried out a rescue operation at the early hours of Sunday morning at about 0615 hrs on Lagos-Ibadan expressway a few meters before Foursquare camp and the rescue operation were done with the help of the Nigeria Police,” she stated.

The series of collisions included three vehicles: a DAF truck with the registration number KMC-810ZB, a Toyota bus with the registration number TMA-244XA, and a Mitsubishi pickup without no registration number.

The suspected causes of the crash were speed, a tire blowout, and the loss of control by the truck driver, whose vehicle crashed and blocked the road, causing other vehicles to collide with it.

The injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital in Ogere for medical treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at FOS morgue in Ipara.

On his part, the Ogun FRSC Sector Commander, Anthony Uga, advised motorists to avoid using substandard tires and to drive at a safe speed, especially during the rainy season.

The Ogun FRSC Sector Commander, Anthony Uga, also expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and encouraged them to visit the FRSC Ogunmakin unit to learn more about the crash.
