Three people have lost their lives in a road accident involving a bus and a trailer in Oyo State, while five others were rescued with minor injuries.

Meanwhile, two people died and two others sustained serious injuries in a separate crash involving a commercial bus and a pickup van along the Adekunle corridor, inward Iyana Oworo, Lagos State, yesterday.

The Oyo incident occurred in Jobele, Afijio Local Government Area, where a J5 bus with an unknown registration number, loaded with bakery machines, crashed into the rear of a stationary DAF trailer carrying synthetic materials.

Both vehicles reportedly caught fire immediately after the collision.

The Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident, saying, “It took the fire service hours before the fire was extinguished.”

He added that the fire started after the J5 bus driver lost control and rammed into the trailer parked by the roadside.

In Lagos, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed that the crash involved a Suzuki commercial bus with registration number KTU 333 YF and a pickup van.

According to the agency, the bodies of the deceased were handed over to the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU), while an injured man and a woman were taken to the General Hospital, Odan, for treatment.

LASTMA also disclosed that the vehicles and the bus driver were handed over to officers of the Yaba Police Division.

The agency’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.

He urged motorists to comply with traffic regulations, adhere to speed limits and remain alert while driving.

Bakare-Oki further advised drivers to maintain safe distances from other vehicles, avoid reckless manoeuvres and ensure their vehicles were in good condition before taking to the road.

He emphasised that responsible driving and sustained concentration were crucial to preventing avoidable accidents, urging all road users to prioritise safety and respect human life.
