Five feared dead as suspected herdsmen attack Benue community
No fewer than five people have been reportedly killed after gunmen believed to be herdsmen attacked the Udeku Maav-Ya community in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to Channels Television, the assault took place on Tuesday evening while the victims were on their farms harvesting yams and bambara nuts.
The report stated that Udeku Maav-Ya has experienced repeated attacks involving the destruction of crops, houses, and economic trees, largely due to its exposure as a border community located close to Cameroon.
It was gathered that the assailants did not retreat after the attack, heightening fear among residents and disrupting normal activities in the area.
Those reportedly killed were identified as Tyozua Gyuse, Gbaga Gyuse, and Tersuur Ijighka, while the identities of two other victims had yet to be confirmed.
Search efforts were said to be ongoing for residents who were declared missing as of the time this report was filed.
Udeme Edet, the state police spokesperson, was unavailable for immediate comment when contacted by TheCable regarding the incident.
