Five injured in Lagos explosion

An explosion occurred at a shop selling CCTV cameras on Kodesho Street on Friday in Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos.

The area around the explosion was quickly secured and cordoned off by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit of the Lagos State Police Command.

Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed the incident in a statement that same day.

He noted that both Mobile Police and Conventional Police teams were deployed to the scene, where EOD experts conducted a sweep to ensure the safety of nearby residents and to facilitate a thorough investigation into the cause of the explosion.

State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, also visited the explosion site, reassuring the public that the Command was fully addressing the situation.

Jimoh urged Lagos residents to remain calm, stating that investigations were underway to ascertain the exact cause of the explosion and any related factors that may have contributed to the incident.

He stated that “the scene of the explosion and the adjoining area have been rendered safe and secured.”

Meanwhile, five persons inside and around the shop who sustained various degrees of injury have been rescued and swiftly recovered to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for medical treatment.
