Flood sweeps away junior school student in Ondo

Motunrayo John, a Junior Secondary School student of Mount Carmel Girls School in Ikare Akoko, the capital of the Ikare Akoko Local Government Area in Ondo State, was reportedly swept away by a flood.

The alleged cause of the flood was a rainfall in the community.

The details of the incident were still sketchy as of the time of filing this report, but it was gathered that the incident happened on Tuesday in Semusemu area of the town.

According to a source from the village, the girl was playing with trash when she accidentally slipped into the river and was swept away.

The source said, “The only thing found while searching for her is her mathematical set.”

The Divisional Police Officer in Ikare Akoko, Mr. Olatujoye Akinwande, who confirmed the incident said the school principal, Mrs. Ajoke Asiwaju, reported the matter at the police station.

He said the search and rescue operation had commenced.
