Flooding: 103 Communities submerged in Rivers

Heavy rainfall and a large overflow of the Orashi River have caused serious flooding in over 103 towns in Rivers State’s Ahoada West Local Government Area.

A visit to Akinima, the local government’s council offices, found that several homes and farmland had been nearly totally flooded by floodwaters.

Some of the affected communities visited include Mbiama, Akinima, Engenni, and Enedua among others.

The Chief Press Secretary of Ahoada West LGA, Esedi Joe, said the council is overwhelmed and is seeking assistance from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and international agencies.
