Seven members of the same family in Runjin Barmo village, Kajiji District, Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State, have died after consuming contaminated cassava delicacy.
This tragic incident was confirmed in a statement signed by Nura Bello, the Information Officer of the state Ministry of Health, on Sunday.
According to the statement, the village head, Muhammadu Modi, informed the Commissioner for Health, Asabe Balarabe, that the victims had consumed the cassava meal for dinner.
“The victims are the father, Abubakar, his wife, A’ishatu and their five children,” the statement partly read.
Commissioner Asabe Balarabe stated that government officials visited the village to assess the cause of the incident and report their findings to the government for necessary action.
The commissioner mentioned that the ministry would take samples from one teenager who survived after consuming the suspected cassava meal.
She expressed her condolences to the community for the unfortunate incident.
