Fatima Binta-Bello, a former Deputy Minority Whip and member of the Federal House of Representatives for the Kaltungo/Shongom Federal Constituency, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party.

In a letter dated October 5, 2023, and addressed to the Chairman of the party in Shongom ward, Shongom Local Government Area of Gombe State, Binta-Bello conveyed her decision to quit the party, effective Thursday.

Binta-Bello, who has been a member of the party for over 20 years, did not disclose any specific reason for her departure.

She was defeated in 2019 by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bulus Amos when she aspired to move to the Senate to represent Gombe South.

Binta-Bello is a former Deputy Chairman of Shongom Local Government Area and Commissioner under the administration of former Governor Muhammad Goje.

She, however, thanked the entire leadership of the party, noting that the decision to quit the party was hard, but taken after consultations with her associates.

The letter partly reads, “I am writing to tender my resignation from People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect. Attached herewith, I am also sending in my PDP membership card.

“This decision was not an easy one and I have consulted with people before taking such a step due to certain factors. I want to use this opportunity to thank the party for all the support given to me for over two decades.

“I wish you nothing but success in the future.”

Binta-Bello has yet to respond to text messages sent to her telephone as of the time of filing this report.
