Former governorship aspirant, Imasuagbon, resigns from PDP

Ken Imasuagbon, a former governorship aspirant and prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has officially resigned from the party.

In a letter addressed to the chairman of the party in his state, Tony Aziegbemi, Imasuagbon did not provide specific reasons for his departure from the PDP.

Nonetheless, he expressed gratitude to the party’s entire body and leadership, describing his time within the party as a memorable experience.

The letter read in part, “Since 2009 in what was tagged the ‘Ewohimi Declaration’ when I joined the PDP has remained a memorable journey for me and I want to thank God almighty for his benevolence.

“The course of my political journey in the PDP had afforded me the opportunity to make great and wonderful friends and had shared great moments with which I will cherish for a lifetime.

“However, the reality of the moment has made it decisive that there comes a time in a man’s life when he has to move ahead. Consequently, therefore, I hereby tender my resignation from the membership of the People’s Democratic Party. Once again, I thank the entire leadership and body of the PDP.”

Recall that Imasuagbon had been in the governorship race since 2007 having worked assiduously for the PDP and later the Grace Group, the PDP faction that thereafter metamorphosed into Action Congress, Action Congress of Nigeria and later the All Progressives Congress.

In 2020, Ken Imasuagbon, along with several other aspirants, withdrew their gubernatorial ambitions to support Governor Godwin Obaseki.

This occurred when Obaseki left the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in order to pursue his second-term ambition as governor.
