Four dead, five injured in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway accident

A crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogere, in the Remo-North Local Government Area of Ogun State, claimed the lives of four people and injured five more in varied degrees.

The collision, which happened on Monday at 3:22 pm, included a truck with the license plate KMC548YD and a Toyota Sienna minibus with the license plate KJA738ET.

The incident was confirmed by Florence Okpe, the Federal Road Safety Corps’ representative in Ogun State.

According to Okpe, speed was a factor in the deadly collision that happened on Monday at about 3:22 p.m.

She said, “A total of nine persons were involved which comprised six male adults, two female adults and one male child.

“Five persons were injured; two male adults, two female adults and a male child.

“Four persons were reported dead from the crash, all male adults.

“Two vehicles were involved with registration number KJA738ET a Toyota SIENNA, and KMC548YD Howo trailer (truck).”

“The suspected cause of the crash was speed, which led to loss of control on the part of the sienna bus which collided with the truck when the truck driver was trying to reverse.

“The injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital Ogere for medical attention while the corpses were deposited at FOS Ipara Morgue.”

The FRSC spokesperson, however, said the Sector Commander has advised motorists “to use common sense speed limit especially this rainy season when visibility is poor.”

She continued by saying that her employer had further advised against driving in the rain and instead suggested waiting for safety reasons in a secure location.

She said, “He also sympathises with the families of the deceased and pray that God should strengthen them for their losses.”
