In the early hours of Monday, a gas explosion in Lagos resulted in four individuals sustaining injuries.
The incident took place in Ijaiye, next to the Apostolic Church in Agege.
It was determined that a shop, which stored gas cylinders, caught fire. According to investigations conducted by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), one of the gas cylinders exploded due to a gas leakage, igniting the fire.
The shop was affected, but nearby shops and buildings were saved from the fire.
LASEMA confirmed that there were no fatalities, but the four victims suffered second-degree burns and are receiving medical attention from the agency’s prehospital care and the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS).
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyitolu, the director-general of LASEMA, stated that the injured individuals have been transported to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).
The combined efforts of LASEMA’s LRT (Emergency Response Team), the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and a post-incident assessment by LASEMA’s LRT and the Lagos State Government Fire department successfully extinguished the inferno.
To prevent any further incidents, the affected shop has been cordoned off by the authorities.
