Youths reject newly created LCDAs in Akure

Youths under the aegis of Akure Youth Coalition (AYC) have rejected newly created four Local Council Development districts (LCDAs) in the local government districts of Akure North and Akure South, Ondo State.

The AYC claimed that the establishment of just four LCDAs in Akure North and Akure South was a political ploy to underserve the populace.

It said that there was no rational reason to create further LCDAs from a local government that was smaller than Akure South, the state capital.
Akure South/Akure North federal constituency will have six LGAs/LCDAS under the proposed LCDAs, while other federal constituencies would have eight LGAs/LCDAS, according to a statement by the AYC’s president, Adekambi Oluwatuyi.

According to the statement: “We, the people of Akure therefore reject in its totality any LCDA creation that will shortchange our people.

“The LCDAs as created did not take into consideration the memoranda submitted to the government Committee by Akure Kingdom, which requested for the creation of eight LCDAs from Akure South.

“The map of the State has been balkanized to cede various parts of Akure to other communities and this will not be accepted.

“Akure, the State capital, should therefore be granted a Special Status and given the number of LCDAs as recommended to the government committee by the community.”
