Four Osun APC executives reject parallel presidential campaign council

Four members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) executive in Osun State have rejected the recently released Presidential Campaign Council list, calling for an immediate review of its composition.

The affected officials made their position known in a statement obtained in Osogbo, the state capital, on Tuesday. The statement was signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Wole Adunola; Welfare Officer, Adesola Ayangbile; Assistant Organising Secretary, Rasheed Adeniji; and Osun APC Ex-Officio, Abiola Ololade.

The executives expressed dissatisfaction over the exclusion of several members of the State Working Committee, who they said were expected to serve as statutory members of the council under the party’s applicable guidelines.

They also questioned the composition of the council, arguing that it contradicted an earlier presidential directive reportedly appointing Governor Ademola Adeleke as Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council in the state.

According to them, leaving out recognised party officials raises concerns about consultation, due process and respect for the established leadership structure of the party.

“Following a careful review, we express our strong dissatisfaction with the composition of the list, which, in our view, does not adequately reflect established party guidelines, due process and the principle of inclusiveness required in constituting such an important campaign structure. We, therefore, reject the list in its present form.

“Furthermore, the composition of the list appears inconsistent with the earlier presidential directive reportedly naming Governor Ademola Adeleke as the Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council in Osun State. Following that directive, the governor promptly inaugurated a broad-based campaign team to drive the presidential campaign across the state. It is, therefore, unclear why a different structure has now emerged without adequate clarification or alignment with the existing arrangement.

“However, if the newly released list is intended to serve as a Parliamentary Campaign Council rather than the Presidential Campaign Council, its composition would be more understandable. This distinction must be clearly established to avoid confusion, duplication of responsibilities and unnecessary friction within the party’s campaign structure,” the statement partly read.

The four officials maintained that the State Executive Committee remains a crucial part of the APC’s organisational structure and should not be excluded from the formation of a statewide campaign council.

They subsequently demanded “an immediate review of the published list, with appropriate consultations involving relevant stakeholders, including the National Secretary of our party, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, and the State Director-General, to ensure proper alignment and effective coordination.”

They also called on the party leadership at both state and national levels to address the complaints promptly and make the necessary adjustments.

“Our position is clear: we need a campaign council that respects party structures, recognises legitimate leadership, accommodates critical stakeholders and unites all members towards electoral victory.

“The task ahead demands unity, discipline, strategic coordination, and collective responsibility. No legitimate stakeholder should be left behind.

“We remain fully committed to the success of our presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the overall interests of the APC. However, the current composition of the PCC list must be reviewed to reflect the inclusiveness and institutional respect necessary for a united and formidable campaign,” the executives further stated.

The development comes after the Osun APC unveiled a 168-member presidential and parliamentary campaign council tasked with mobilising support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid and other party candidates in the 2027 general elections.

As earlier reported that the announcement was contained in a statement signed by the Osun APC chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, who said the council was established to strengthen the party’s chances in the forthcoming elections.

Under the announced arrangement, Bola Oyebamiji, the APC’s candidate in the August 8 governorship election, was named Director-General of the campaign council, while Lawal was appointed Deputy Director-General, alongside other members.
