Four people have been confirmed dead following an outbreak of acute diarrhea in Jangalawaji and Tadangara settlements within the Gujba ward of Gujba Local Government Area, Yobe State.

According to information from development partners, 45 individuals showing symptoms of the disease have received treatment.

The state’s Commissioner of Health, Dr. Lawan Gana, confirmed the fatalities and stated that the Rapid Response Team, alongside state government officials and partners, is conducting ongoing hygiene awareness campaigns in the affected areas.

While there is no confirmed cholera outbreak, Dr. Gana noted that samples from those suffering from acute diarrhea have been taken for testing.

“We responded and as of yesterday, there were no more cases of acute watery diarrhoea.  It is an area that is surrounded by water so accessing the area was very difficult. We initially opted to use a helicopter to access the settlements but later succeeded”

“Already samples have been collected but no one can confirm that people have died of cholera and any acute watery diarrhoea is something that happens at all times” he said.
