Four Seminarians die in Obudu Resort accident

42

Four seminarians have tragically lost their lives, and nine others have sustained injuries following an accident near the Obudu Ranch Resort in Cross River State.

According to a statement by Nsa Gill, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Bassey Otu, the incident occurred at the Ikwette community, near the base of the Obudu Ranch Resort hill.

“The unfortunate incident resulted in the loss of four lives and injuries to nine others. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement read.

The accident involved a vehicle carrying thirteen individuals, with preliminary findings suggesting brake failure as a likely cause of the crash.

Gill explained that the victims were seminarians from the Enugu Catholic Diocese who were on a tour led by a Reverend Father. They had completed their visit to the ranch when the crash occurred outside the resort’s premises, at the foot of the hill.

In extending condolences to the bereaved families, the Cross River State Government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring safety at the Obudu Ranch Resort and across the state.

“Safety is our utmost priority in the Ranch Resort and beyond. We will be reviewing existing safety measures to ensure the wellbeing of all visitors,” the statement issued on Sunday continued.

The government urged all visitors to ensure vehicle roadworthiness and observe safety guidelines when travelling to and from the state’s tourist attractions.

“Once again, our heartfelt condolences go out to all those affected by this tragedy,” the statement concluded.
