France Cinema Boss sentenced to three years in prison over sexual assault case

Dominique Boutonnat, the chairman of France’s leading cinema institution, was sentenced to three years in prison on Friday, two of which were suspended, after being convicted of sexually assaulting his godson in 2020.

He will be permitted to serve his one-year prison sentence at home while wearing an electronic bracelet, according to the Nanterre criminal court outside Paris.

Boutonnat stated in a statement that he would be stepping down as head of the National Centre of Cinema (CNC), which oversees initiatives to reduce sexual violence in the industry.
