Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has called on newly recognised traditional rulers to prioritise peace and security in their domains, urging collaboration with the government to safeguard lives and property.

The governor made this appeal on Tuesday while presenting Staff of Office and Certificates of Recognition to four newly recognised monarchs, including former Niger Delta activist Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, at Government House, Port Harcourt.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi.

The recognised monarchs are:

  • HRM Winston Odize Alamina Oputibeya XII, Amanyanabo of Koniju, Okrika LGA
  • HRM Eze Noble Friday Uwoh (CSP rtd), Eze Igbu-Ehuda (Ahoada) IV, Ahoada-East LGA
  • HRH Prince Ike Ehie, Eze Igbu Orilukwoe, Ahoada-East LGA
  • HRH Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, Amanyanabo of Torusarama Piri, Degema LGA

While congratulating the monarchs, Fubara reminded them that their roles are responsibilities to serve their communities, not avenues for personal gain.

“Your recognition is not for personal aggrandisement but a call to service—a responsibility to protect lives and property,” Fubara said. “I urge you to partner with the government to ensure our administration’s success in delivering democracy’s dividends.”

The governor also cautioned against actions that could disrupt local peace, affirming the government’s authority to withdraw recognition if necessary.

State Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Charles Amadi, commended the governor for expanding the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, recognising two Royal Majesties and two Royal Highnesses.
