The Nigerian Labour Congress, Rivers State chapter has ordered all civil servants in the state to sit at home if the fuel and naira scarcities persist on Monday.
The state NLC chairperson, Beatrice Itubo, issued the threat in a chart with newsmen on Sunday evening.
Itubo, who is also the governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Rivers State, expressed sadness that the workers salaries which she described as static could no longer bear the high cost of transport.
Itubo further said the current economic situation in the country had made a mincemeat of workers pay, saying that the suffering was no longer acceptable.
“We have declared a sit at home for all workers in Rivers state from Monday till further notice if the fuel crisis and crazy transportation fare hike continues
“Anyone or organisation who queries or sack any worker who observes the sit-at-home declared will have the NLC Rivers State Council to contend with.
“We want to say this is not targeted at anyone or targeted to the Rivers State Government,” she stated.
Continuing, Itubo said, “We are reacting to the situation we find ourselves as Nigerian workers.”
“Things of such is actually what spur my interest to run for the office of the governor of the state.
“Ordinarily, if we had a listening government, I have no business to have started this journey. We cannot keep suffering as a result of this misrule,” she stated.
