Nigeria’s 2027 presidential contest is gradually taking shape as major political parties begin to unveil their candidates ahead of the general election.

The candidates were produced through various party primary elections held across the country, while others emerged via ‘consensus’ arrangements within their parties.

However, the process has not been without disputes, as some aspirants and party stakeholders have expressed dissatisfaction with the outcomes in certain camps.

This development marks a new phase in the political build-up, with parties now focusing on nationwide consultations, alliance formation, and preparations for full-scale campaigns ahead of the election scheduled for January 16, 2027.

The Nation reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) set May 30 as the deadline for political parties to conclude primaries and resolve internal disputes arising from the nomination process.

The electoral body also warned that parties failing to meet the deadline risk being disqualified from fielding candidates.
