The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has released its latest Air Quality Index, with Agege and Surulere ranking as the areas with the most hazardous and very unhealthy air quality, respectively.
According to the index, Agege recorded a hazardous air quality score of 103%, indicating a critical air quality situation for its residents. Surulere followed with a score of 76.1% (very unhealthy), while Mushin and LAMATA Kosofe recorded unhealthy scores of 47.3% and 46%, respectively.
Other areas included Lagos Port at Apapa with 36.4% (unhealthy), Badagry at 23.8% (unhealthy for sensitive groups), Moloney Street at 20.7%, and Egbeda at 15.7% (both unhealthy for sensitive groups). Meanwhile, NIMET Oshodi recorded 14.1%, General Hospital Ikeja 12.6%, and LSDPC Estate on Lagos Island 12.1%, all classified as moderate air quality.
Lekki stood out as the area with the best air quality at 10.1%, while LASEPA’s own headquarters recorded a good air quality score of 7.6%.
LASEPA acknowledged that the air quality in some areas is not ideal but assured Lagos residents that the agency is working diligently to improve the state’s air quality.
