The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has approved the elevation of 57 legal practitioners to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

At its 169th plenary session held in Abuja, the committee, chaired by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, approved the elevation of 56 lawyers in the advocates’ category and one candidate in the academic category.

This year’s list includes only two women: Mrs. Oyinkan Badejo-Okusanya, Chair of the NBA 2024 Annual General Conference Planning Committee, and Mrs. Chinyere Ekene Moneme.

Others elevated include Abia State Attorney General and former NBA Lagos branch chairman, Ikechukwu Uwanna; immediate past Attorney General of Nasarawa State and current Secretary to the State Government, Labaran Magaji; and Osun State Attorney General, Oluwole Jimi-Bada.

The sole academic appointee for 2025 is Professor Chima Ubanyionwu.

The swearing-in ceremony for the 57 new SANs is scheduled for Monday, 29th September, 2025, and will be conducted by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.

The SAN title is awarded in recognition of outstanding professional excellence either through courtroom advocacy or significant academic contributions to legal scholarship.

According to the committee’s statement, three petitions were reviewed during the session, but all were dismissed for lacking merit.

In line with the directive of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN), all newly selected SANs must attend and complete a mandatory Pre-Swearing-In Induction Programme.
