FUTA graduate cleared for NYSC as JAMB reverses “fake admission” status

The issue surrounding the admission status of Jamiu Owodunni Basola, a Civil Engineering graduate from the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), which had previously prevented him from registering for the National Youth Service Scheme (NYSC), has now been resolved.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) had earlier stated that it did not authorize Basola’s admission, claiming that his details were missing from its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).

Basola, along with FUTA, had reached out to JAMB after the board repeatedly flagged his admission as “fake” whenever he attempted to register for NYSC.

The situation sparked widespread public backlash, with many Nigerians criticizing the examination body.

However, in an interview with The Guardian on Tuesday, Basola confirmed that the issue had been resolved.

“Around 11:30 yesterday (Sunday), I was able to log into my JAMB portal. And secondly, my admission status on the JAMB Matriculation List has changed from ‘fake admission’ I have been seeing to ‘Congratulations, your name is on the Matriculation List’,” he told the correspondent.

He extended heartfelt thanks to Nigerians and the media, acknowledging that the public outcry played a significant role in compelling JAMB to correct the error.
