Ganduje appoints ex-NUJ President Garba as Chief of Staff

The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has appointed a former National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Malam Muhammad Garba, as his Chief of Staff.

Garba’s appointment was announced in a statement by the APC Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, yesterday in Abuja.

Garba was Kano State Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, and later as Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs from 2015 to 2023 when Ganduje was governor.

He was a Federal Commissioner at the Fiscal Responsibility Commission from 2011 to 2014; Member and Convener of Federal Government’s Subsidy and Reinvestment and Empowerment Committee (SURE-P) between 2012 and 2015.

Garba was a two-term NUJ National; President of West African Journalists Association (WAJA) and was also elected at Casablanca, Morocco, as President of Federation of African Journalists (FAJ) and a member of the steering committee International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) in Dublin, Ireland.

He was Press Secretary to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives in 1993 and to the Deputy Governor of Kano State from 1999 to 2003.

Garba, a holder of a Bachelor’s degree in History/Political Science and a Master’s in Development Studies from Bayero University in Kano, also holds a National Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication from the International Institute of Journalism.

He served as the spokesperson of the Gawuna/Garo campaign organisation in 2023.
