Gas cylinders being transported in a truck exploded at a filling station in Jibia Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina State, damaging approximately six vehicles.

Police spokesperson in the state, ASP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Friday.

He explained that on November 15, police operatives stationed at the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters heard a loud explosion and immediately, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) led a team, in collaboration with the military, to the scene.

“Upon arrival, operatives found a truck loaded with gas cylinders engulfed in flames at Tamal filling station, along Kagadama-Magamar Jibia road.

“The joint team swiftly deployed preventive measures to protect lives and minimise property damage, successfully quenching the fire.

“Six motor vehicles were significantly affected by the fire incident, but fortunately, no life was lost,” he said.

According to ASP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, the Commissioner of Police in Katsina State, Mr. Aliyu Abubakar-Musa, has ordered a comprehensive investigation to ascertain the cause of the explosion.

Sadiq-Aliyu added that updates on the progress of the investigation will be provided as more information becomes available.
