The Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, has called on the National Assembly to deepen engagement with young Nigerians and other key stakeholders to promote inclusive governance and strengthen public confidence in the legislative process.

Gbajabiamila made the appeal on Tuesday while speaking at the 2026 National Assembly Open Week in Abuja, where he emphasised the importance of transparency and active citizen participation in lawmaking.

He said Nigerians should be able to understand how laws are enacted, how public funds are appropriated and how legislative oversight contributes to protecting the national interest.

According to him, greater openness in parliamentary activities would help citizens appreciate the role of the legislature and encourage accountability in governance.

The former Speaker of the House of Representatives urged lawmakers to maintain regular consultations with young people, women, persons with disabilities, civil society organisations, the private sector, professional bodies and communities across the country.

He noted that effective legislation requires listening to diverse perspectives and ensuring that all segments of society have a voice in shaping national policies.

Reflecting on his tenure as Speaker, Gbajabiamila said legislative leadership demands balancing competing interests while preserving national unity and advancing the common good.

He urged the National Assembly to sustain efforts aimed at making the legislative process more transparent, participatory and responsive to the needs of Nigerians.
