OpenAI’s widely used AI chatbot, ChatGPT, experienced a significant global service outage on the morning of Wednesday, February 6, leaving users unable to access the platform.
The disruption began at 10:00 AM and prompted over 1,400 complaints logged on Downdetector.
The issue impacted the majority of users, with over 98% of reports citing problems with ChatGPT.
Many took to X (formerly Twitter) to confirm if others were facing similar difficulties during the outage.
Social media platforms have become a go-to resource for users seeking confirmation of widespread service issues, as they provide real-time feedback on disruptions.
The OpenAI status page confirmed the service interruption, which affected ChatGPT, its API, and Sora platforms.
Reports of the disruption began at 9:58 AM IST on February 5, with OpenAI’s team providing continuous updates during the restoration process.
By 1:32 AM IST, OpenAI had restored full functionality to the API and Sora platforms, and by 2:45 AM IST, ChatGPT services were fully operational again.
The company continues to investigate the root cause of the issue.
