Gombe APC expels ex-gov Goje over alleged anti-party activities

Former Governor Danjuma Goje has been expelled from the All Progressives Congress in Gombe State’s Kashere ward due to suspected anti-party conduct.

Goje is an APC senator-elect and now serves as the senator for Gombe Central.

According to earlier reports, Goje was expected to appear before a five-man committee on an inquiry into his alleged anti-party activities, with a two-week deadline for the committee to submit its findings.

Yunusa Abubakar, a member of the Senate from Gombe South, and Bulus Amos, a senator from Yalmatu Deba Federal Constituency, were among those who were also under investigation and ultimately expelled.

Tuesday, Chairman Tanimu Abdullahi announced the ward’s decision, stating that it came as a result of the numerous complaints over suspected anti-party acts against Goje that had received no satisfactory responses.

He said that Goje had received notice from the committee inviting him to respond to the accusations levelled against him in the interest of a fair hearing.

Abdullahi said, “In the course of investigations, the committee has deliberated on the following allegations against Senator Goje: Failure to attend the flag-off of the Gombe State APC campaign rally in Gombe which was led by the National Chairman of our great party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu.

“Failure to attend the Tinubu-Shettima presidential rally in Gombe which was attended by the President-elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and the Vice President-elect, Senator Kashim Shettima

“Failure to attend all APC campaign rallies and tours in Gombe, including the one in his own Gombe Central senatorial zone, Akko federal constituency, state assembly and ward unit.”

He noted the activities that were in breach of Article 21, Section A, subsection ii, iii, vi and vii of the APC constitution, saying that, “Senator Muhammadu Goje is no longer a member of the APC in Kashere ward, and by extension, in Gombe State and Nigeria.”

In the meantime, Goje urged the court to order the respondents to stay all actions in the suit “pending the hearing and determination of the originating motion on notice” in an exparte injunction instituted at the Federal High Court Abuja on April 17, 2023, against Kashere ward chairman Abdullahi and the APC.
